TRIBUTE TO THE FALLEN


Carrying an image of Samba Martine with the inscription "Samba Martine, after 38 days detained at the immigrant detention centre of Aluche died at the hospital 12 of October" a route was made during the celebration of the national day of Spain on October the 12th 2012 in Madrid. 



The first stop was at the Columbus plaza, the second at door of the apartment were Congolese politician Moisé Tshombe used to live, the third at the immigrant dentition Centre of Aluche and the last one at the 12 of October Hospital where Congolese immigrant Samba Martine died. 


The following places were visited:


Plaza de Colón: It is one of the emblematic squares of the city of Madrid. Every October 12, the military parade for the celebration of the national day of Spain culminates in this square.


Calle Doctor Fleming #48: Home of Moisé Tshombe during his exile in Spain between 1963 and 1967. Moises Tshombe was directly involved in the murder of Patrice Lumumba and later received with an asylum authorization in Spain approved by the dictator Francisco Franco.

 

Aluche Immigrant Detention Center:  Migrants considered "illegal" are detained for periods of up to two months in this center prior to forced deportation. Samba Martine stated more than 10 times that she was not in good health while she was detained in this center.


Hospital 12 de Octubre: Health care center founded in 1973 by the dictator Francisco Franco. Samba Martine died on December 19, 2011 in this hospital.
