WE HAVE SEEN A VIDEO IN YOUTUBE AND IT WAS FULL OF XENOPHOBIA

In 2009 a group of students from the Myton School in England recorded a video when they were traveling back from a school trip in France. The video was uploaded to Youtube with the following title: “illegal immigrants trying to get into the UK. Good job we caught them”. The video shows how two migrant people are detained by border control agents, after this the students of the Myton School euphorically celebrate the detention.

Between the years 2014 and 2015 a group of students from a high school in Barcelona worked many months analyzing this video from a decolonial and critical with the migratory control system perspective. The result of the analysis of the video was the publication of the book "We have seen a video in youtube and it was full of xenophobia". The book has the intention to serve as pedagogical material to address issues related to xenophobia, eurocentrism, migratory control system and coloniality.

15 copies of the book have been send to the Myton School in England  where the students who recorded the video attended.
