CAY CORITACHO MICUNQUI?

Cay coritacho micunqui? (Is this the gold you eat?) Capac Inca asks a Spaniard colonizer in a drawing made by the chronicler Guaman Poma de Ayala in the seventeenth century. “We eat this gold", the colonizer replies.

This gold is that same one that the clients of the chocolate boutique in which I worked in the year 2010, and in which 24 karat gold was served as decoration of the cakes made of Guanaja chocolate, another product extracted from the invaded territories whose specific denomination, Guanaja, refers to the island in which Christopher Columbus obtained the first cocoa beans in the year 1502.

The performance Cay coritacho micunqui? proposes a critical, anti-racist and anti- colonial reading of Spanish food culture in which 16 ceramic plates depict different characters of colonialism created specifically for the performance.
