IN THE CELEBRATION OF OUR STRUGGLES IS THEIR COLLAPSE
Reclaiming and keeping alive the memory of anti-colonial resistance is crucial for the struggles against European institutional racism, the global colonial order, for understanding the battle against white supremacy and its violence, as well as for recovering strategies of organization and struggle carried out in the past.
In celebration of our struggles is its collapse consisted of a handmade garland that was tied around the Delaware Colonial Monument in the city of Gothenburg, a monument that violently celebrates Swedish colonialism on the Caribbean island of Saint Barthélemy during the 17th century.
Each image on the garland shows an embroidered drawing that references and contains information about different historical moments of anti-colonial struggles in the Caribbean, and at the same time resembles the rope that is usually tied around monuments to be torn down.
