DECORATION
Eurowhite societies, their media and their political representatives constantly focus attention on the migrant population when describing, analysing and debating the situation of the internal and external borders of the European Union. The hyper-visibility of the migrant population contributes to the invisibility of the Migration Control System, its mechanisms of persecution, detention and deportation as well as the people responsible for it. The Condecoración project proposes to give visibility to those subjects responsible for the Migration Control System through a series of actions carried out on their images.
The award consists of a bust of the attacked director of the Migration Control Agency FRONTEX, as well as images of the faces of Ilkka Laitinen - Executive Director of FRONTEX until 2015, Gil Arias - first Deputy Director of FRONTEX and Berndt Körner, current Deputy Director of the Agency.
The project also includes a poster showing various subjects involved in four key areas of the Migration Control System: The political framework, which includes representatives of the European Commission and Council, as well as representatives of the Member States; The economic framework, which includes members of various private companies and lobbies dedicated to profit in the security industry through border control; The security framework, related to control agencies such as FRONTEX as well as the police forces of each Member State; and finally the Human Rights Industry, which includes people involved in agencies such as the UNHCR, Amnesty International, Red Cross and Caritas who collaborate in legalizing and normalizing violence in the migration control system through their participation in platforms such as the FRONTEX Consultative Forum, in addition to making constant use of the image of migrants and refugees for the creation of profit.
