NASCITURUS
3 artworks and video 2´ 30´´ / 09
The project Nasciturus aimed to reconstruct the physical characteristics of an unborn due to an abortion 9 years ago, the reconstruction is compose by the following parts:
N1 Six portraits made with photographs of father and mother using a morphing software .
N2 Diagram showing the possibilities of the unborn’s blood group through analysis of the parent’s and grandparent’s blood types.(Determined by geneticist Gemma Marfanny)
N3 An Identikit portrait made by the forensic science division from the Police of Barcelona ( Mossos de Squadra) . The father made a physical description of the mother and mother of the father, based on these characteristics the Geneticist Gemma Marfanny identified the dominant and recessive physical forms for creating the drawing.
The project was presented in the Valls Museum for the Contemporary Art Biennial 09, for the occasion the video "Daniela Ortiz auto indulgent" was included, showing a young woman in an Adventist church speaking out loud about her abortion experience, being held by a fervent audience, she says regretting what she did and feeling free of guilt after making public her experience.
The last part incorporated is a newspaper page, the article writen by an Spanish archbishop tells about a Psychologist who works with women that had aborted, explaining that the only way for them to accept their guilt was to make a ceremony were each women would write down the name of the unborn and then put it in a basket infront of a shrine.
The project Nasciturus started as an innocent and catholic way of dealing with guilt, during the process, which is still running, the guilt has been transformed into an investigation of the mechanisms that aloud or force this feeling to appear.
